If you have not experienced it yet, Sofia in May is just a great idea. The green city gardens and parks, the spring sunny weather and the diverse cultural program throughout the month could be some of the many reasons to include Sofia in your travel list. One of the public holidays and non-working days in the beginning of the month is 06 May, when the Bulgarians celebrate St. George’s Day. Indeed this is a tradition that has its traces across the Balkans. Further traditionally since 1880 in Bulgaria 06 May is also the Day of Bravery and a holiday dedicated to the Bulgarian Army.
If you are already in Sofia or have plans to visit the Bulgarian capital in May don’t miss out the Sofia Lunar Light Festival 2025.
The 4th edition of Lunar Light Festival takes place from 08 May – 11 May in the heart of Sofia city center. The organizer and the main artistic team behind the project is the Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO, in partnership with one of the world famous light festivals – Festival of Lights International Productions GmbH. Don’t miss out the spectacular 3D mapping and the light art installations on 14 key locations in Sofia center. This is just another way to get to know and discover the beauty of Sofia nightlife while following the map of the festival.

All the light art works will be available free of charge during each of the four festival nights and will be on between 09:00 pm and 12:00 am.
3D mapping spectacles and projections will transform the facades of some of the emblematic buildings in the centre such as the National Art Gallery Square 500, the National Library St. St. Cyril and Methodius, the National Gallery – the Palace, the National Palace of Culture (NDK) and more.
